Taking Tradition into the Future
In 1867, when Victorian Freemasons were granted a 5-acre site adjacent to St Kilda Road, the surrounding area was nothing more than dense bush with large trees and no roads. Bordering the site was a natural wetland that would later be drained to become Albert Park Lake. No one could have predicted this untouched corner of Melbourne would become the heart and home of one of Victoria's largest and most respected aged care providers.
While Royal Freemasons have continually evolved to meet the changing needs of the community, our commitment to a client-centred model of care has remained at the forefront of everything we do. New services, buildings and facilities have been developed to provide accommodation, care and support to retirees and elderly Victorians throughout the state. Still guided by the leadership of the Freemasons, the organisation, unlike many other providers, has continued to invest in its future. The recent successful transformation of our Princes Hill property into premium retirement apartments, known as Redmond Park, represents the first of a number of such developments planned over the years ahead.
Testimony to its vision for the future, the latest chapter of the organisation's continual evolution is an advanced aged care facility, planned as part of the major redevelopment of the same site where it all began over 140 years ago. The building, due for completion in late 2010, and offering a range of specialist services and facilities, will be overseen by Royal Freemasons' Trustees and Directors, whose members include senior Freemasons and respected figures in medicine, healthcare and nursing. The new four story building represents the future of Royal Freemasons aged care, as we look to continue our longstanding traditions of quality care, delivered with respect and dignity.
