Behaviours of Concern

Following a seeding grant from The Taylor Foundation, a La Trobe University - Industry Collaborative Grant allowed the conduct of a project entitled 'Responding to behaviours of concern among people living in residential care'.

This project involved a comprehensive literature review and the development of an evidence based best practice guideline, which was refined to a simplified stepped approach for the diagnosis and management of our residents who had behaviors of concern.

The guideline was field tested at our dementia-specific high care nursing home, Colbran Lodge, and showed evidence of benefit compared to standard practice. The results were published by La Trobe University; presented at national and international conferences; and the guideline have been incorporated into enhancements of our care procedures for residents with dementia.
